Can I use a Set Top Box to convert analog cable signal into digital to watch in Windows Media Player?
Cablevision turned off my analog cable so I have to buy one of their boxes for each tv. Can I use a 3rd party Set Top Box to convert the analog cable to digital and then watch it on my PC using Windows Media Player?
You have no analog cable anymore. Just digital
You need either a box from your provider (they are not for sale, only rent or lease), or a Cablecard capable TV or a TiVo or Moxi DVR (there are no tuner only boxes for commercial sale, which accept cablecard).
To watch on your computer, you need a tuner/capture card that has a digital tuner. You may not get all of the digital channels though. Quite a few of the channels will be encrypted, and as such, can only be decrypted by a box provided by the cable company, or through a 3rd party cablecard device (which, as said, at his time is jsut some TVs and TiVo/Moxi DVRs).
