component cables 480i display?
i have a pioneer dvl-919 cd/dvd/ld player. i hooked it up using component cables, which are suppose to display a better picture. i have a sony kld-46v4100 lcd tv. the display is telling me that the video output is 480sd i. i was wondering is that the best picture for the component cables or would hooking it up using composite cables (red, yellow, and white) be better?
Component Cables would give you better picutre than composite.
component can display 480i, 480p, 720p, 768p and 1080i
composite can only display 480i
However that pioneer player is about 10 years old. So the display may be showing 480sd (which is 480i) because it might not have the ability to upconvert DVDs to progressive scan (480p or higher).
Make sure you have the component cables hooked up correctly and that you go intot he pioneer's menu and make sure that the display is set-up correctly as well (maybe 480p is an option that you have to enable through the menu).
If it still doesn't work then it's definitely because the pioneer isn't able to output more than 480i
