Will constant power cuts do any damage to my electronics?
I live in an old apartment that was built in the 1920s. The wiring here is so screwed up! It seems every two neighboring units are wired together....so whenever my neighbor uses his portable heater or turns on his microwave, both of our powers go out, and one of us has to go into the hallway to flip the switch. This has become an everyday thing now, and some nights the power would go out 2 or 3 times. It is so damn annoying too!! I try to watch a TV show, or play on the computer, and then the power will go out!
But I have a brand new computer, and a brand new 50 inch DLP TV, which I paid over $1700 for. Are the constant power cuts doing any damage to my TV?
A UPS (uninterruptible power supply) would be VERY helpful in your situation. They have a battery that will power your equipment for a few minutes, so you have time to go flip the switch without losing anything. Get one with a quality surge suppressor that can handle small spikes (some just handle large spikes). You may want to connect this to a power conditioner to give total protection to your equipment.
